It’s hard to dispute that the giant Galapagos tortoises, colonies of penguins, endemic flora and fauna, and other exotic wildlife lure travelers to the Galapagos Islands. It’s even harder to dispute that $500 off an already incredible deal is something travelers can’t afford to miss. Today travelers can experience the wondrous islands that were studied and admired by Charles Darwin almost 200 years ago on Friendly Planet Travel’s Galapagos Islands Express tour for $1,999 when booked by Aug. 1, 2011, a $500 savings. Travelers venture 600 miles off the coast of Ecuador to the islands of Baltra, Santa Cruz, and Isabela for seven days to see the biodiversity and natural, untouched beauty that makes the Galapagos Islands so alluring.

Included in the price are roundtrip flights from Miami; all ground transportation and transfers; first-class accommodations with private bath at Sebastian Hotel in Quito, Ecuador; first-class accommodations with private bath at the Red Mangrove Divers Lodges on Santa Cruz on Santa Cruz and Isabela Islands; 14 lavish meals, including six breakfasts, four lunches, and four dinners; comprehensive sightseeing tours with a naturalist guide on the Galapagos Islands; and Galapagos National Park Fee of $100 and Transit Control Card of $10.

“This Galapagos tour has been developed for travelers who want a true experience of the Islands, without the strenuous exploration,” says Peggy Goldman, President of Friendly Planet Travel. “Any traveler can enjoy the fascinating species of birds and animals currently inhabiting the legendary islands without strain on both your body and wallet through this effortless and affordable tour package.”

To begin, travelers will arrive in Quito to spend the night in Ecuador’s capitol city en route to the Galapagos. The next morning, travelers fly via Guayaquil to Baltra airport, followed by a transfer to Santa Cruz Island. Here they’ll enjoy a guided tour of the Charles Darwin’s Research Station and meet the infamous giant tortoise, Lonesome George. The Santa Cruz Island stop also includes shopping in Puerto Ayora followed by dinner at the beautiful Aventura Lodge.

Day three starts with a leisurely hike to Los Gemelos (the Twins), where travelers can witness the true power of nature viewing these collapsed lava chambers. From there, flora and fauna at its finest is seen at the Santa Cruz Highlands and Scalesia Forest. Friendly Planet travelers then experience a 600-acre private reserve truck tour through open terrain witnessing the best wildlife the Galapagos has to offer. An illuminated lava tunnel tour, measuring 1,350 feet long, and lunch at the lodge lead into a two-hour sail set for Isabela Island to enjoy the remainder of the night strolling through Concha de Perla or snorkeling at local turtle “cleaning stations.”

The morning after includes a sail across the port taking in views of blue-footed boobies and the Galapagos penguins. Walks through a jagged lava field, opening into canals holding white-tipped reef sharks, and taking in the views of black lava field follow with a chance back at land for snorkeling and sunbathing. Visit Las Cuevas de Sucre to find the lava tunnels of Santa Cruz. Ending the evening with a trip to El Manga Mirador brings back a bit of history from the early settlers.

Day five starts with a Humedales drive from town to Long Beach, where you can enter the National Park for unbelievable views atop Cerro Orchilla. Then, visit the Muro de Las Lagrimas (Wall of Tears), which displays century old jagged volcanic rock laid by penal colony prisoners. A leisurely lodge lunch awaits as travelers then set sail for Santa Cruz to check in at the Red Mangrove Santa Cruz Divers Lodge.

If bidding farewell after then enjoying Quito for the final day doesn’t quite cut it for some, the package also includes a two-day optional stay in Quito, a UNESCO World Heritage site, for $229. The post-tour extension includes an all-day Otavalo excursion with visits to nearby villages of Cotacachi, Peguche and San Antonio de Ibarra.
