Overseas living experts InternationalLiving.com are calling on the public to help decide who should win a competition for an all-expenses-paid, month-long “retirement test-drive” in the colonial Ecuadorian city of Cuenca.
InternationalLiving.com was inundated with entries after first asking Americans and Canadians willing to live for free in Ecuador for a month to send their video “applications” back in February.
Internationalliving.com received nearly 600 video entries from hopefuls explaining why they deserve to win the prize.
International Living staff narrowed the field to the just-released list of 20 finalists, and public voting on the frontrunners has now opened.
“By sending a lucky winner to Cuenca for a month, we’ll prove you can enjoy adventure, fun, and the joys of a comfortable retirement on less than it would typically cost you to stay home,” explained InternationalLiving.com’s executive editor, Jennifer Stevens.
InternationalLiving.com chose Ecuador after the South American nation was announced as the world’s best overseas retirement destination in Internationalliving.com’s 2012 Global Retirement Index.
Stevens continued, “We’ve been telling the world that Ecuador is the number one place for an overseas retirement for years – now we’re going to prove it by sending retirees out there to see for themselves.”
The winning entrant will receive round-trip airfare for two to Ecuador from his or her “home city” in the United States or Canada, a four-week stay in a furnished apartment in historic Cuenca…plus $1,500 spending money.
According to research from InternationalLiving.com, a couple can live well in Cuenca on a budget of $915 per month, after rent.
Although no writing experience is necessary, the winner will be asked to share impressions and experiences with readers of InternationalLiving.com’s magazine, website and free e-letters.
Winners will be announced on the InternationalLiving.com website on May 30, 2012.
