Lark Hotels Opens Stylish, Hip 21 Broad on Nantucket

July 24, 2014
Lark Hotels' 21 Broad has just opened on Nantucket, bringing the hotelier's stylish touch to the island.

Lark Hotels’ 21 Broad has just opened on Nantucket, bringing the hotelier’s stylish touch to the island.

Lark Hotels expands its “designer hotel meets historic property” concept with the grand opening of Nantucket’s 21 Broad, which began welcoming guests July 19.

Boasting designs by Boston’s award-winning Rachel Reider Interiors, 21 Broad is a fully renovated, 27-room hotel located within a 1876 structure and just a minute’s walk from the Steamship Authority and iconic island restaurants.

21 Broad pampers guests with luxuries such as a steam and massage room, gluten free artisan pastries and eco-friendly vitamin C showers, which de-chlorinate the water and leave the skin silky smooth.

21 Broad, which is owned by Bruce A. Percelay, is Lark Hotel’s second collaboration with his Boston-based real estate development company and joins Percelay’s chic sister property 76 Main, which opened last summer and is the only hotel on tony Main Street in the heart of Nantucket town.

Like all Lark hotels, guestrooms and common areas at 21 Broad display a hip and stylish decor, which infuses the historic architecture with bold, yet playful designs. Interiors blend an “Urban meets Nantucket – Modern meets Broad Street” feel all the while keeping the integrity of its 1800s structure. Reider has created the designs for most of the Lark Hotels collection. Textures and colors at 21 Broad blend a “white on white” palette with pops of bold colors mixed with woods, large striking art pieces, earth toned linens and sea grass.

Guest amenities and services at 21 Broad include spa services, a guest lounge with games, turntable with vinyl collection, landscaped outdoor courtyard with fire pit, iPads and iPod docking stations with a white noise feature, 40” LED Smart TVs, in-room Keurig coffee makers and refrigerators, personalized concierge service, complimentary wireless internet, and guest discounts for online purchases at vineyard vines, the official outfitter of 21 Broad and all Lark Hotels.

Set in six coveted seaside locations – Kennebunkport and Portland, ME, Nantucket, MA, Portsmouth, NH and Newport and Narragansett, RI – Lark Hotels embrace the locations they are in, but in playful, unexpected ways. Think “sense of place” with imagination and a touch of mischief. Each Lark Hotel invites guests to experience modern luxury in the heart of an iconic destination, to feel the pull of a nostalgic getaway while surrounded by today’s amenities and to find attentive service when they want it and privacy when they don’t.

Sleep with an Eye for Art at Bavaria’s ‘Sightsleeping’ Collection of Castles, Palaces, Designer Hotels

June 11, 2014
Neuschwanstein Palace in winter © BAYERN TOURISMUS Marketing GmbH

Neuschwanstein Palace in winter © BAYERN TOURISMUS Marketing GmbH

Bavaria’s collection of Sightsleeping® hotels invites you to say in palaces, castles and designer hotels and surround your senses with the arts even where you sleep. The newest collection of 43 properties includes a stylish city hotel in Nuremberg, a chalet with lodge views of the mountains beyond Lake Tegernsee, and a 15th-century castle.

Membership in this exclusive collection is based on agreement by a jury of art experts, professional designers, journalists and tourism experts. Criteria for inclusion are the attraction value and the aesthetic level of an establishment. Only those candidates where sightseeing begins in the hotel itself can be included under the motto “Sleeping with an eye for art”. These hotels offer a new option in experiential travel, where arts and culture are as important in the hotel where you stay as they are in the destination visited.

“We offer many cultural events in Bavaria from exhibitions to classical concerts, jazz weeks and more”, explains theme manager Kristina Nagl. “With Sightsleeping® Hotels, we now offer guests accommodation options that are also culturally oriented. Sightsleeping® stands for a new type of travel, in which the hotel experience plays a central role. You are as you sleep. The arts are your muse”.

The Sightsleeping® jury meets in October each year to decide which new candidates to admit to the collection. The strict selection process guarantees the quality of the offerings. Criteria include the attraction value and the aesthetic level of an establishment. Palaces and fortresses or contemporary architecture with a modern design are all viable candidates for the portfolio. An important requirement is that the décor be worth seeing – with paintings, prints, drawings or sculptures with real aesthetic appeal, or where a concept can be identified. The hotels are often further distinguished by their own cultural offerings and organize readings by authors, concerts or theater productions.

Information about the Sightsleeping® hotels, events in and around them, and a downloadable version of the Sightsleeping® catalogue are available at http://www.bavaria.us/sightsleeping-hotels-bavaria.

Metropolitan by COMO Hotel Opens in Miami Beach

March 4, 2014

The Metropolitan by COMO, Miami Beach is now open for business.

Located on Collins Avenue and 24th Street in South Beach, the 74-room hotel occupies an original 1930s Art Deco building.  While centrally located, the feel is a true respite from the buzz and beat of South Beach: it’s right on the beach and has a private pool with cabanas and a rooftop COMO Shambhala spa.  It even has a private dock on the Intracoastal Waterway.

Interior design is by the Italian designer Paola Navone, who preserved the hotel’s Art Deco exterior and other features – such as the lobby’s terrazzo floor – and contrasted it with urbane, contemporary interiors in shades of peppermint green and dusky grey, with surfaces of cool white marble and shining chrome.

The hotel has two restaurants, including The Traymore, showcasing Floridian seafood such as stone crab, Key West pink shrimp and yellow tail snapper.  At the poolside restaurant – open only to hotel guests – diners can enjoy pizzas from the brick oven or graze on crudo while relaxing in a cabana.  The Traymore Bar will have over 30 artisanal gins.

The rooftop COMO Shambhala Urban Escape spa has four treatment rooms, hydrotherapy pool and juice bar with views of the ocean.  Therapies include the company’s signature COMO Shambhala Massage as well as the COMO Shambhala Sun Soother.  Each morning complimentary yoga is offered on the spa terrace overlooking the Intracoastal Waterway.

Rates begin at $499 per night for a Metropolitan Room.

Metropolitan by COMO is owned and operated by Singapore-based COMO Hotels and Resorts, which also owns the private island resort Parrot Cay by COMO in the Turks & Caicos.

Metropolitan by COMO, 2445 Collins Avenue, Miami Beach, FL  33129, 305-695-3588 or 855-316-2666, www.comohotels.com/metropolitanmiamibeach.

‘Miami Vices’ Couples Getaway Pulsates with ’80s Soundtrack at Mayfair Hotel Miami

February 9, 2014
Mayfair Hotel & Spa Miami

Mayfair Hotel & Spa Miami

The Mayfair Hotel & Spa Miami celebrates its shared 30th birthday with Miami Vice, which filmed at the hotel, by orchestrating sizzling new packages for Miami Romance Month, featuring a soundtrack based on the 1980s hit songs from the TV show, designed to score the perfect lovers’ getaway.

“The Mayfair’s new collection of romantic escapes showcases Miami Vice’s groundbreaking use of pop music, it was the first TV program to broadcast in stereo and to feature current hit songs in every episode,” said the hotel’s General Manager Axel Gasser. “In 1984, both the Mayfair Hotel and Miami Vice debuted and became legendary Miami icons, along with the musical hits from Miami’s most decadent decade.”

While other programs traditionally used made-for-TV music, the producers of Miami Vice were the first to insist on using original music, spending $10,000 or more per episode to buy the rights to hit songs by contemporary artists. Having a new single played on Miami Vice was a boost to musicians and to record companies, and sparked a groundbreaking new trend.

Whether you rocked out to 80s metal mania, bopped to New Wave, or jammed to synth-pop and electro dance, you can soundtrack your own romantic getaway thanks to these packages that hit the high notes from The Mayfair Hotel & Spa Miami, honoring these beloved 80s hits from Miami Vice.

For adventurous couples, the hotel offers an adrenaline-rush for those who want to explore new heights together in their relationship. This high-speed thrill features a private plane ride for two, and climaxes in a tandem skydive as the lovers fall through the skies together.

The Mayfair has composed a very tactile escape for lovers, based on these lyrics: “Face to face, and back to back, you see and feel, my love attack. Turn out the light babe, are you someone else tonight.”

The Miami Vices Romance packages start at $1,150- $1,900. Reservations are required for the Miami Vices Romance packages, one week in advance of arrival date.

Miami Vice starred Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas, and shined the global spotlight on Miami as a hot new destination. The music on the series became a signature hallmark. The Miami Vice theme is the last TV show theme to make it to #1 on the Billboard charts, and several soundtrack albums dominated the airwaves.

The show was so popular that major pop stars of the time were clamoring to have their songs included on the episodes.

Some of the leading music stars of the day even made guest appearances on the show, including: Sheena Easton, Gene Simmons of Kiss, Robert Palmer, John Taylor and Andy Taylor of Duran Duran, Phil Collins, Bernard Edwards of Chic, El DeBarge and Fiona.

Reservations are required for the Miami Vices Romance packages, one week in advance of arrival date.

To book the Miami Vices Romance adventure, call the hotel’s “Vice” specialists at 305 441 0000.

The Mayfair Hotel & Spa is part of the Schlesinger family’s iconic portfolio of hospitality excellence, including its sister property the Brazilian Court Hotel in Palm Beach.

Heralding its 30th anniversary with the completion of more than $10 million in extensive renovations, The Mayfair Hotel & Spa is located in the heart of Miami’s historic “first neighborhood,” The Village of Coconut Grove. The boutique architectural gem is the only Gaudi-inspired hotel in the United States, an artistic masterpiece that blends Art Nouveau, Asian and Old World European inspirations.

The dramatic interior atriums teem with elaborate Asian gardens and fountains. Subtropical fantasias cocoon guests inside a private Zen oasis – overflowing with palm trees, orchids, tropical ferns and bamboo, birds and butterflies, monolithic columns and Tiffany stained glass ceilings. Hand-carved by local artists, the Mahogany woodwork and doorways, copper and stone sculptural creations are all one-of-a-kind (the molds were broken after the unveilings).

The Mayfair features 179 luxury suites, most with private terraces and Japanese Soaking Tubs (built for two), imported Brazilian doors, marble bathrooms with Roman Spa Baths, stone floors, sea-grass furnishings, hand-carved Mahogany headboards, and opulent details.

The indulgent culinary experiences at The Mayfair are helmed by Executive Chef Dario Correa. The Italian trattoria Spartico showcases a stone-faced wood-burning Ambrogi oven imported directly from Milan. Above the Mayfair surrounds the decadent rooftop pool and cabanas.

The hotel boasts one of a handful of Jurlique Australian Spas in America, a 4,500 square-foot holistic day-spa with sunlit treatment suites, a Couples’ Suite for dual treatments, and certified-organic products that are biodegradable and exclusively grown on Jurlique’s private farms in South Australia’s pristine Adelaide Hills.

The property is pet-friendly, has a 24-hour Fitness Center, 15,000 square-feet of events and meeting space, and offers a complete Business Center with complimentary WiFi in all rooms and common areas.

The Mayfair Hotel Miami is celebrating its 30th anniversary along with Miami Vice, which filmed at the hotel, featuring yearlong promotions and special events to be announced throughout 2014.

Lark Hotels is opening its newest boutique property, The Break, in Narragansett, Rhode Island in June 2014. The property will feature a retro chic surf vibe and will be the first hotel of its kind in this historic seaside town which boasts some of the best surf breaks in New England.

Lark Hotels, a collection of designer boutique properties located in iconic coastal New England hot spots, has announced the launch of its newest hotel, The Break, grand opening in Narragansett, Rhode Island in June 2014. The property, a new build, will feature a retro chic surf vibe and will be the first hotel of its kind in this historic seaside town, which boasts some of the best surf breaks in New England.

Situated just one block from the ocean and a short walk to the beach, The Break will feature 16 guest rooms and suites; each decked out with king beds, fireplaces, rainfall showerheads, Apple TV, iPads and iPod docking stations. Most accommodations feature private balconies with ocean or sunset views.

The decor, by Rhode Island designer Jocelyn Chiappone, will tap into the vintage surfer nostalgia of the late 60s when local surfing legend, Peter Pan, burst onto the scene and put Narragansett on the map. Bold, modern textiles pop with color palettes of bright orange, earth tones, crisp white and shades of green and blue. Furnishings combine dark woods with modern whicker chairs and chandeliers, midcentury modern inspired armchairs and sofas, fabric headboards and ceramic tables.

Developed by locals Jim and Becky Durkin, The Break will embrace the beach community history of this distinctive stretch of sand and sea. The hotel will feature a rooftop lounge overlooking sweeping views of the ocean, sunsets and Pell Bridge in Newport. Guests will also enjoy a heated outdoor pool, hot tub and sun deck, as well as a small spa and salon and a fitness center.

A sampling of the hotel’s personalized concierge services will include arranging surfing and stand up paddle boarding lessons, board and kayak rentals, beach picnics and fishing excursions – Narragansett is home to the second largest fishing port in the northeast.

Lifestyle brand vineyard vines®, the official outfitter for all Lark hotels, will provide coastal, preppy chic attire for the staff at The Break.
