With roughly half of all holiday season hotel goers waiting until mid-December to book reservations and the right loyalty program capable of providing significant savings, WalletHub today released its 2016 Hotel Rewards Report to help travelers make an informed choice.

WalletHub examined the rewards programs operated by the 12 largest U.S. hotel chains based on 21 key metrics, such as the average value of a point, point expiration policies and the volatility of award night pricing. You can find a handful of highlights below.

  • For the second year in a row, Wyndham Rewards is the best hotel loyalty program for travelers of all spending levels, earning an average WalletHub Score of 71.10.
  • La Quinta offers up to $14.17 in rewards value per $100 spent – most among major hotel loyalty programs.
  • The value in purchasing hotel rewards points varies widely from program to program. With some, it’s a rip-off, while others make it a no-brainer.
  • Best Western is the only major hotel chain whose rewards points do not expire due to account inactivity.

In addition to identifying the best and worst hotel rewards programs, WalletHub’s report features a custom calculator that allows users to personalize the results based on their own hotel budget.

WASHINGTON, DC – The Silver Line Metrorail expansion, connecting Northern Virginia to the nation’s capital, is making Crescent Hotels & Resorts’ three hotels on the line ideal venues for people attending the Presidential Inauguration as well as the Million Woman March, and other high-profile events in Washington DC.

“In the last two weeks, our phones have started to ring off the hook,” said Linda Westgate General Manager of the Sheraton Tysons Hotel, located two blocks from the Spring Hill Silver Line stop, one of the management company’s 14 properties in the Washington DC/Baltimore area and one of the three properties located on the expanded Silver Line.

Westgate credits the growing interest in the hotel to not only the location to Metrorail, but the nearby Tysons Corner Center, the region’s largest shopping complex, hosting over 300 specialty and department stores. The hotel is offering an inauguration package of $329 per night (plus tax) which includes Metrorail passes for two as well as complimentary parking and WIFI. This package is bookable online.

Reston, Virginia, one stop from the Spring Hill station, offers a town center atmosphere with countless dining and shopping options. Don Anderson, Complex General Manager of the Westin Reston Heights and the adjacent Sheraton Reston Hotel, also credits Silver Line for the increased interest in Reston hotels.

“This will be first presidential inauguration where guests will be able to take a complimentary hotel shuttle not only to Dulles International Airport but also Metrorail, connecting them to the city for all key events,” said Anderson, whose hotels offer complimentary shuttle to both Metrorail and the airport. Both hotels are offering Metrorail passes in their inauguration packages and are bookable online, as well as guest room only options.

For Westin Reston Heights: rates starting at $195, click here. For Sheraton Reston Hotel: rates starting at $165, click here. Rates are based on minimum length of stay.

Tim Bowes, Vice President of Crescent Hotels & Resorts, said, “The options for lodging have really opened up for this presidential inauguration. The key really is to be close to Metrorail.”  He also sites new hotels as another option, provided they are close to a rail station. Two hotels that have opened since the last inauguration include the Cambria hotel & suites Rockville located in Rockville Town Center and the Hyatt Place Washington DC/US Capitol, one mile north of the US Capitol Building. Both hotels are two blocks from a Metrorail stop located on the Red Line, one of the system’s main arteries.

Here’s another tip: be prepared to head out by about 4 am in the morning because the lines and security take hours. Dress warmly, in layers, and take some drinking water and snacks.

Crescent Hotels & Resorts operates over 100 hotels and resorts in 27 states in the US and 5 provinces in Canada. Crescent is one of the few management companies approved to operate upper-upscale and luxury hotels under the brands of Marriott, Hilton, Starwood, Hyatt and IHG. Crescent also operates a collection of legendary independent hotels and resorts. Crescent’s clients are made up of hotel REITs, private equity firms and major developers. March 10, 2016

Marriott International plans to open an additional five Moxy Hotels in key European cities in 2016, including Munich, Eschborn and Berlin in Germany, Oslo in Norway and Aberdeen in the UK. The five properties will strengthen Moxy Hotels’ ongoing expansion plans since its successful debut of Moxy Milan, Italy in September 2014.

In addition to the five European openings, there will be two new openings in the United States in Tempe, Arizona in March 2016 and New Orleans, Louisiana in April 2016.  The brand expects to offer a portfolio of nearly 150 hotels around the world within the next ten years.

“This is an exciting and pivotal moment for the Moxy brand as we move into the second phase of development with five new hotel openings this year and nine more expected in 2017,” Amy McPherson, president and managing director of Marriott International, Europe, said. “In 2014, Moxy Milan hit the market with a bang, as the first budget-savvy hotel brand to shake up the industry with a fun, stylish, and unexpected hospitality experience.  We are so pleased to be able to offer this game-changing experience to more travelers in more major cities.  This is just the beginning of a sensational journey for Moxy in Europe.”

In partnership with Vastint Hospitality as the owner and developer and franchise partner, Nordic Hospitality, the following Moxy hotels are expected to open by year-end 2016:

  1. Moxy Munich Airport, Germany – 252 rooms – located five minutes from the main terminal – March 2016

Today’s Millennial traveller appreciates the idea of hospitality over service: they want to be welcomed, and to help themselves. Knowing that this audience views self-service as the best service, Moxy has created a new way of travelling, which is smaller in concentration, not a reduction. Thoughtful touches permeate the Moxy experience, providing Next Gen guests with everything they want and nothing they don’t.  Moxy’s inviting lobbies are crafted to be highly social spaces with a high-energy lounge, 24/7 self-service grab and go, ample plug-ins for personal devices, free and furiously-fast Wi-Fi, and the Moxy Digital Guestbook for streaming videos and pictures via Instagram. Each hotel is also equipped with a library and plug-in zones that invite a quiet read or a brief web browse. Guestrooms will offer keyless entry, screen casting and motion-sensor lighting. The design aesthetic will embody the ethos of the brand and the personality of the local areas. The brand’s photo booth elevators encourage and enable guests to snap fun selfies with locally-inspired props.

As part of Marriott International’s Luxury + Lifestyle portfolio of brands, which includes Ritz-Carlton, EDITION, BVLGARI, JW Marriott, Autograph Collection, Renaissance Hotels, AC Hotels by Marriott and Moxy Hotels – totalling 550 properties worldwide – Moxy boldly reinvents the select service hotel experience to fully embrace today’s Millennial traveller. La Réserve Paris Hotel and Spa is recreated from the Haussmannian Mansion formerly owned by designer Pierre Cardin.

La Réserve Paris Hotel and Spa just opened, joins La Réserve Apartments as La Réserve Hospitality Collection’s first metropolitan outpost, following two years of fastidious work by more than 120 artisans.

The new hotel and spa occupies a Haussmannian mansion previously owned by the designer, Pierre Cardin, off the Champs-Elysées at 42 Avenue Gabriel, tucked away in the 8th Arrondissement – a stone’s throw from the Palais d’Elysée and Place de la Concorde – with views of the Eiffel Tower, Grand Palais, Pantheon, and Luxor Obelisk.

La Réserve Paris is a serene escape from the bruit de fond of France’s capital city. Interiors of the 26 spacious suites (including four Presidential Suites) and 14 rooms that pay homage to the chic style of the Belle Époque. The large rooms feature period antique furniture, rich fabrics, regal colors, and muted lighting.

The particularly refined spaces, beyond the rooms and suites include facilities like a private lounge, bar, courtyard, smoking parlor, library, and the seasonal French restaurant Le Gabriel, helmed by Jérôme Banctel, former Chef du Cuisine of the two-Michelin-starred restaurant, Senderens. Suites will include personal butler service, and in-room wine coolers.

The spa consists of three treatment rooms, gym, sauna, and a 52 foot indoor pool. The treatment menu features the world-renowned Swiss anti-aging treatment, Nescens.

La Réserve Paris Apartments consists of 10 furnished apartments for longer-term stays, located at Place du Trocadéro, and has been open since 2007 and is considered an extension of the new hotel and spa.

Conceived by Michel Reybier to express his passion for fine living, wellness, and high design, La Réserve Hospitality Collection has hotels in Geneva and Ramatuelle, just outside St. Tropez. Reybier also owns La Chartreuse, Château Cos d’Estournel, one of Bordeaux’s top wines and Tokaj Hetszolo, one of Hungary’s most beautiful vineyards.
