Colorado Ski Country Celebrates Spring with Events, Activities Galore

Denver, Colo. –As Colorado’s 2015/16 ski season enters what is typically the state’s snowiest month, Colorado Ski Country USA (CSCUSA) member resorts have calendars full of events, deals, promotions, and activities for the whole family. Between now and the end of March, guests at CSCUSA ski areas and resorts can celebrate spring and participate in fun racing events, enjoy a diverse range of live music, learn new tricks in the terrain park, partake in giant on-mountain scavenger hunts, and much more.

Arapahoe Basin

Alpenglow Ascents Rando Challenge (Race 1 of 2) – March 12

A-Basin’s spring uphill/downhill ski mountaineering race provides a great afternoon challenge for ski area guests. Whether training for the Traverse or just trying out their randonee equipment, this race is an awesome way for athletes to work out in the alpenglow. Registration is 3:30pm; 4:30pm race start. 6th Annual Save Our Snow Celebration and Demo Day – March 26

A benefit for the High Country Conservation Center (HC3), $20 from each lift ticket sold at the window goes to the HC3. Participating guests will celebrate sustainable practices and meet Colorado companies working to keep winter white. The ski area will also be demoing local Colorado ski and snowboard manufacturers for a donation to the HC3. Aspen Snowmass

16th Annual Bud Light Spring Jam – March 18-27

The 16th annual Bud Light Spring Jam will bring two weekends of competitions, downtown concerts and parties to Aspen Snowmass. The festival features everything from the 17th annual KickAspen Big Air, where skiers and snowboarders compete under the lights at the base of Aspen Mountain, to free Bud Light Hi-Fi Concerts with acts such as Nahko and Medicine for the People, Big Gigantic, and Nicki Bluhm & The Gramblers. Other events include a snowboard Banked Slalom competition, Terrain Park Boot Camp sessions that offer instruction on how to slide a box or hit a rail in a mini-park at Snowmass, as well as the inaugural Colorado Collegiate Freeride Championships. Cooper

10th Mountain Division Day at Cooper – February 19

Each year Cooper honors the men of the 10th Mountain Division to whom we owe our existence as an industry and an organized winter sport. The day will culminate with an S-Formation “Ski-Down” on the Molly Mayfield trail. Several surviving veterans are expected to participate, and those who are unable to ski will ride in one of Cooper’s 12-passenger Chicago Ridge snowcats. Cooper Mogul Competition – March 19

Cooper invites skiers to test out their bump skiing skills in the competition course and have a chance to win cash and other prizes. The competition will be divided into Junior (11-17) and Adult (18+). Prizes in the Junior group will include awesome selections of Cooper swag, and a 2016/17 season pass for 1st place. Prizes in the Adult category will include a cash purse and pass products. The course will be bumps-only. Scoring will be based on turns (75%) and speed (25%). Copper Mountain

USSA U-19 National Championships – February 28 – March 4

Copper is home to the U.S. Ski & Snowboard Association’s under-19 Alpine Championship 2016. The best of the best in alpine ski racing, ages 16-19, will compete for a National title in slalom, giant slalom, downhill and Super G races. For a detailed schedule, visit www.coppercolorado.com.

Moonlight Dine & Ski – March 19

Join Copper Mountain for their last Moonlight Dinner of the 2015/16 ski season. Participating guests will ride the lift to Solitude Station, where they will enjoy fine dining and live entertainment. Ski Town Breakdown – March 19

25th Annual Steamboat Pentathlon – March 5

The Steamboat Pentathlon, hosted by the City of Steamboat Springs Parks & Community Services Department, is a one-of-a-kind spring event featuring five athletic disciplines in one race. This year marks the 25th Anniversary of the Steamboat Pentathlon, which was first held in 1991. Participants can race as individuals, dynamic duos or as a team, with both short-course and long-course options available. The race is comprised of five separate stages that include alpine skiing/snowboarding, snowshoeing, nordic skiing, mountain biking and running. Stick around after the race for the after party, featuring free food, drinks, prizes and participant raffle. Loveland

Ski With A U.S. Forest Ranger – Wednesday, March 9

The U.S. Forest Service and Loveland Ski Area team up to host Loveland’s Ski with a Ranger Day. Guests can join a Forest Service Snow Ranger for a fun, free, and easy run centered around the relationships between Loveland and the land we all enjoy so much. Topics include glacial geology, winter ecology, local history, and partnerships and are suited for all ages (recommended for ages 8+). Meet at Ptarmigan Roost Cabin at the top of Chair 2 at either 10:15am or 1:15pm for a run with the Snow Ranger. Loveland will host another Ski with a U.S. Forest Ranger Day on Saturday, March 26.

Giant Easter Egg Hunt – Sunday, March 27

Visit Loveland on Easter Sunday for a giant Easter Egg hunt. Participating guests will gather at Loveland Basin for first chair at 8:30 am and keep their eyes peeled for the giant Easter eggs hidden on the slopes and around the base area. Huge eggs mean huge prizes like skis, snowboards, outerwear, lift tickets and more. This is an event for all ages.

Monarch

Telemark Festival  – February 21

Spring Break Fun at Purgatory for the entire Family, March 5-20

Night Skiing – February 26-27

The 3rd Annual Night Skiing is also the inaugural year of the Flat Top Flyer high speed detachable lift. Two runs from top to bottom, one of which will lead to the terrain parks which are illuminated as well. For beginners, the EZ Rider Lift will be operational and one EZ run will be under the lights. Tickets from 4:00PM-9:00PM will be $56 for 13 & Up and $35 for 12 & Under. Tickets from 12:00PM-9:00PM will remain the same as our normal ticket prices. Season Pass and P-Card Holders will be able to ski for free both nights (Mid-Week passes only good for Friday). In addition, Powderhorn is hosting a USASA Rail Jam under the lights! Ski Granby Ranch

Rock the Ranch

Granby Ranch hosts Rock the Ranch on Saturdays in March with live musical entertainment. Guests can start the month off on a good foot by skiing or riding for a cause at the Dress in Blue fundraiser event for the Colon Cancer Alliance on March 4th. At night head out on the slopes after après ski at Granby Ranch Grill for the only Night Skiing in Grand County, Fridays and Saturdays from 5pm – 8pm for only $17. Mom and dad can get out early on Saturdays for the Morning Intro Ski Tour, a beginner’s opportunity to get into the sport of Alpine Touring.

Beach Bash – March 26

Closing weekend is jam-packed with the Beach Bash celebration on Saturday, March 26, which includes snow cones, leis and a pond skim. The day will close with night skiing on the mountain and a Moonlight XC Ski and Snowshoe on the Golf Front 9. On the last day of the season, Sunday, March 27, head up the mountain for a Sunrise Easter Service, enjoy a special Easter Brunch at Granby Ranch Grill and visit the Easter Bunny during the Easter Egg Hunt. To celebrate the nearing bike season, the resort will be holding its first Granby Ranch Meltdown, an on-snow downhill bike race and kids’ fun ride. Bud Light Rocks the Boat Concerts – March 5, 12, 19, 26 & April 2, 9 & 10

The Steamboat Ski Area will again be rockin’ during the winter ski and snowboard season as the Rocks the ‘Boat Free Concert Series returns for the 17th season offering a great mixture of various musical genres. The Rocks the ‘Boat series has brought together everything from bluegrass and New Orleans style rhythm & blues to a traditional Irish sound to flat out rock and roll. The spring lineup includes:, Afrolicious, Magic Giant, Goonies, Jakubi, Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad, Ozomatli and a soon to be announced band for closing day.

U.S. Freestyle Championships – March 18-20

Freestyle skiing makes its return in late March as the Steamboat Ski Resort hosts the 2016 US Freestyle Championships, featuring the America’s best men and women mogul and aerial athletes, including Olympic, World and National Champions. The 2016 Championships will take place across the Park Smalley Freestyle Complex, which consists of the Voo Doo aerial venue and the 1,000-foot vertical long adrenalin generating Mayer’s Mogul Course. Steamboat has one of the premier freestyle facilities in the country and is the place that launched numerous athletes on their way to the pinnacle of the sport including World Champion Ann Battelle, Olympic medalists Nelson Carmichael and Travis Mayer as well as 2014 Olympian and US Champion Eliza Outtrim. Sunlight

Defiance Challenge – March 4

The Defiance Challenge features ten hours of skiing on expert terrain. Lifts open at 7:00 am and close at 5:00pm. Proceeds from the event are split between the Sunlight Ski Patrol and the family of a fallen patroller with the National Ski Patrol. Melanoma Awareness Day – March 5

Telluride

Rail Jam at the Beach – March 12

Participate in Telluride’s annual Rail Jam, located at the Beach in Mountain Village. Registration begins at 12:00 pm at Mountain Village BootDoctors and runs until 2:00 pm. Freestyle sessions begin at 2:00 pm, the competition kicks off at 4:00 pm and awards start at 6:00 pm. 

Helly Hansen Scavenger Hunt – March 27

Helly Hansen will be hosting an on-mountain scavenger hunt using their app and geocaching. Guests who download the app will be notified when they are close to free Helly Hansen gear. From 1:00 – 3:00 pm, there will be a free beer tasting at Gorrono Ranch with Telluride Brewing Company and SweetWater Brewing serving up some of their most popular beers. Winter Park Resort

The 41st Annual Wells Fargo Ski Cup – February 26-28

The Wells Fargo Ski Cup celebrates its 41st anniversary with a weekend featuring world-class disabled ski racers, Denver celebrities, Broncos alumni and amateur skiers/snowboarders coming together to benefit the National Sports Center for the Disabled (NSCD).

The weekend is highlighted by three races, the Corporate Challenge, a Pro Am style race where teams of five friends, family or coworkers are paired with an NSCD Competition Center athlete and compete for prizes; the Kids Snowplow Sprint, which features up-and-coming NSCD athletes and able bodied young skiers; and the Wells Fargo World Disabled Invitational. The weekend also includes a giant silent auction with items perfect for any budget. Wolf Creek

Weekend Fun Races at Wolf Creek

Fun Races at Wolf Creek Ski are held every weekend throughout the season with eight races in February and March. The modified giant slalom course with a dual race format is free to both skiers and boarders. With more than 14 age brackets, men, women, boys and girls of all ability levels are able to race for gold, silver and bronze medals. Races begin ‪at 11:00 a.m., awards are ‪at 3:30 p.m. on the sun deck of the main day lodge.

Wolf Creek will also be hosting a Wolf Creek Challenge Series. The series will include two races: A Giant Slalom with 40+ gates and a Super-G race course. The Challenge Series races are open to teams and individuals.  Entry rates for the races along with dates can be found on www.wolfcreekski.com.

Local Appreciation Days

Local Appreciation Days at Wolf Creek offer all guests a discounted lift ticket. No I.D. is required, everyone is a local that day. Steamboat’s winter nonstop flight program will feature new nonstop service from San Francisco International Airport and Washington Dulles International Airport, expanded nonstop air service on the Los Angeles and Seattle routes and an additional weekend Houston flight directly into Steamboat/Hayden Airport (HDN) for the 2014/15 winter season.

This winter, new flights and expanded service from major hub airports will make Colorado Ski Country USA even more accessible to skiers and snowboarders from all over the world. New service from San Francisco (SFO) and Washington, D.C. (IAD) and expanded options from Dallas (DAL), Los Angeles (LAX) and Houston (IAH) will bring domestic and international guests directly into the heart of Colorado Ski Country more conveniently than ever before.

Whether a short drive from Denver, a direct flight from across the country, or a direct international flight from one of eight different countries, guests to Colorado resorts have easy, efficient and comfortable options available to land them at their favorite Colorado resorts.

Having expanded its international service with United Airlines’ nonstop flight from Tokyo in 2013, Denver International Airport (DIA) recently announced that United will commence daily service from Panama City, Panama in early December 2014. DIA is one of the busiest airports in the world, and benefits from numerous direct flights from all major cities from coast-to-coast in the US, including a brand new service from Dallas Love Field on Southwest Airlines. With the addition of flights to and from Panama City, the airport will now receive visitors directly from eight different countries – Australia, Canada, Germany, Iceland, Japan, Mexico, Panama, and the United Kingdom.

From DIA, travelers can reach seven resorts in less than a two hour drive; Eldora Mountain Resort, Loveland Ski Area, Winter Park Resort, Arapahoe Basin, Copper Mountain, Ski Cooper and Ski Granby Ranch.

Alternatively, once they arrive at DIA, visitors can easily connect to any of Colorado’s regional resort community airports, including Alamosa, Aspen, Durango, Eagle, Gunnison-Crested Butte, Grand Junction, Telluride/Montrose, and Steamboat.

In many cases, additional flight options allow guests to fly right to a resort direct from their originating city. These regional hotbeds include nonstop flights from cities such as Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, Newark, Phoenix, Seattle, San Francisco, and Washington, D.C. With eight regional airports in mountain and resort communities, direct flights can put travelers slope side in no time.

Telluride Ski Resort boasts non-stop flights from nine major U.S. hubs and 10 total metropolitan airports to its main airport, Telluride/Montrose (MTJ), and has announced a 20 percent increase in destination flights this winter.

New this year, United will begin non-stop service from San Francisco (SFO) and American/US Airways will start Phoenix (PHX) flights to Telluride (MTJ). American Airlines flights from Dallas (DFW) will see a 50% increase, including the addition of the daily 76-seat CRJ 900 with first class cabin. United’s Newark (EWR) flights will now run on Sundays in addition to the historic Saturday service.

Daily and multiple daily flights are also available to Telluride/Montrose on United from Denver (DEN), Chicago (ORD), Houston (IAH), and weekly from Los Angeles (LAX). Delta flies daily over the holidays and then weekly from Atlanta (ATL). One of the few resorts offering a low-cost carrier, Allegiant will continue to fly direct to Telluride/Montrose from LAX and Phoenix-Mesa (IWA/AZA). For travelers headed to Aspen/Snowmass, approximately 150 direct and connecting flights fly weekly into Aspen/Pitkin County Airport. From the airport, it’s only six miles to Snowmass Village and three miles to Aspen.

United Airlines provides daily direct flights to Aspen/Pitkin County Airport from Houston, along with four daily direct flights from Los Angeles and 13 daily flights from Denver on peak days. This is in addition to the airport’s four daily direct flights from Chicago/O’Hare and two daily direct flights from San Francisco, bringing United’s total frequency up to 24 daily flights in and out of Aspen/Snowmass this winter.

American Airlines utilizes CRJ-700 aircraft operated by American Eagle to provide 63 seats with nonstop service from Dallas/Fort Worth and Los Angeles each with daily nonstop service to Aspen. In addition, from December 18 – March 29 Delta will provide service into Aspen/Pitkin County Airport from Atlanta and Minneapolis/St. Paul. Gunnison/Crested Butte Regional Airport services direct flights from Denver, Dallas and Houston, and Chicago/O’Hare. Through American and United Airlines’ extensive flight networks, guests can get to Crested Butte from anywhere in the world. Upon landing, shuttles are available to transport guests to resorts in the area such as Crested Butte or Monarch Mountain. Guests can also utilize rental car services from Hertz, Avis, or Budget.

United Airlines will have two nonstop round trip flights daily between Gunnison/Crested Butte Regional Airport and Denver, while American Airlines will have one nonstop round trip flight daily between Gunnison/Crested Butte Regional Airport and Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport with an additional second service in the peak holiday period. In addition, United Airlines will provide daily service from Houston International Airport and Chicago O’Hare International Airport. The Durango/La Plata Airport serves as Purgatory, Wolf Creek Ski Area and Silverton’s main portal for guests who are travelling lengthy distances. American Airlines offers daily nonstop jet service from the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, US Airways offers service from Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, and Untied offers service from Denver International Airport. The San Luis Valley Regional Airport, which lies closest to Wolf Creek Ski Area, offers three nonstop flights to Denver International Airport.

Steamboat’s winter nonstop flight program will feature new nonstop service from San Francisco International Airport and Washington Dulles International Airport, expanded nonstop air service on the Los Angeles and Seattle routes and an additional weekend Houston flight directly into Steamboat/Hayden Airport (HDN) for the 2014/15 winter season.

New for the 2014/2015 ski and snowboard season will be Saturday nonstop service to HDN from San Francisco (SFO) and Washington-Dulles (IAD). Arapahoe Basin, Colorado, Claims Title as First Ski Resort in Nation to Open for 2014 Season

Exultation as Arapahoe Basin, Colorado, again takes claim to the title as first ski resort in the nation to open for the 2014-15 season (Jack Dempsey).

Denver, Colo. – October 17, 2014 – Colorado’s 2014/15 ski season is underway today as a crowd of ecstatic skiers and snowboarders celebrated at Arapahoe Basin Ski Area. Atop an 18-inch base of packed powder, at 9:00 a.m. the Black Mountain Express high-speed quad chairlift began delivering eager snow riders to the top of the intermediate High Noon run for their first turns of the year.

Several resorts in Colorado have taken advantage of cold nighttime temperatures to commence their winter operations over the past several weeks. Copper Mountain began making snow on the evening of Monday, September 29, and in addition to Arapahoe Basin, Loveland Ski Area, Winter Park Resort, and Telluride Ski Resort have made snow since then as well. Ideal snowmaking conditions and recent natural snowfall at high elevation allowed Arapahoe Basin to win the friendly Race to Open for the third consecutive year.

Following a record year for skier visits in Colorado, and a summer of major upgrades and improvements at Colorado Ski Country USA (CSCUSA) member resorts, Arapahoe Basin’s opening has skiers and riders looking forward to the season ahead. “Since the first high country snowstorms several weeks ago, snowmakers and groomers have been working diligently to deliver a memorable Opening Day, and we’re thrilled to see our guests enjoy their first day of the season”, said CSCUSA President and CEO Melanie Mills.

Colorado’s ski areas are aiming to build on last year’s successful season with capital improvements, program upgrades, and new technology. “As always, Colorado resorts are focused on delivering a great guest experience”, continued Mills. “From innovative instructional programs and award-winning dining facilities to groundbreaking smartphone apps and multi-mountain pass products, our resorts’ ongoing dedication to quality, safety, and value is what keeps visitors coming back to Colorado season after season.”

The race to host Opening Day is one of the highlights of the ski season, a title often held by Colorado’s Arapahoe Basin or Loveland Ski Area. Both resorts are perched atop the Continental Divide, giving them higher elevations, earlier frosts, and colder temperatures. This also allows them to stay open long into the spring, giving Colorado one of the longest ski seasons in the country.

Right now, the resort is giving 30% off lodging when guests book a minimum of four nights for the 2014-2015 winter season by August 15, 2014. The lodging discounts continue on a tiered system for the next two months; save 25% when lodging reservations are booked by September 15, 2014 and save 20% on or before October 15, 2014.

What’s more, guests flying to the popular ski destination have the opportunity of nearly free airline tickets. January is Learn to Ski and Snowboard Month and Colorado Ski Country USA (CSCUSA) resorts are offering deals to entice kids and adults to come to the mountains and give skiing and snowboarding a try, sharpen their skills or pick up a new discipline. In addition to CSCUSA’s First Class program, which provides a free beginner lesson and equipment rental to qualifying fifth graders in January, resorts are offering significantly discounted lessons and Learn to Ski and Snowboard packages that include lift tickets, equipment rentals, and lessons taught by highly trained professional instructors.

Taking a lesson is a wise step in progressing as a skier or snowboarder. Safety and knowing your limits also add to a great day on the slopes according to CSCUSA Ski Instructor of the Year Ashley Sifers with Ski Granby Ranch. “This is really important. Recognize when you’re tired. Be aware of your surroundings and listen to your body,” explains Sifers. “You don’t have to eke out every minute of the day to have a successful, awesome day on the hill.”

Learn to Ski/Ride Month Super Sunday Special

Free Skiing and Riding for Beginners During Ski and Ride Month and All Winter Long

All season long beginners can access and learn for free on the Easy Rider carpet located in Center Village. Once basic skills are learned, a ticket for the Pitchfork chairlift is $15, allowing beginners to master getting on and off the lift while perfecting turning and stopping.

Woodward at Copper Barn – Great for Newbies and Beginners
This past summer the Woodward at Copper Barn underwent a half-million renovation project which opened the door far beyond snowboards and skis to now include skateboards, BMX and slopestyle mountain bike . Learn to Ski and Ride Season Pass Program

Powderhorn Mountain Resort and the Grand Junction Daily Sentinel join forces to bring back the Learn to Ski and Ride Season Pass Program for the 2013 – 2014 winter season. Designed for first time skiers or snowboarders ages eight and up, the Daily Sentinel’s Learn to Ski and Ride Season Pass program features three consecutive ski or snowboard lessons at Powderhorn Mountain Resort with the Intensive Series, which includes a full day group lesson with an hour break for lunch.

Lessons run from 10am – 12pm and 1pm – 3pm and focus on weather precautions, changing snow conditions, etiquette on the mountain and the Skier/Rider Responsibility Code. Discounted Basic Beginner Packages

Colorado Ski Country USA Resorts Delighted with Heavy Snow Accumulation for Early Season Conditions

 

Aspen, Colorado, shows off its abundant snow that will greet early season skiers and snowboarders.

A major snowstorm has blanketed Colorado Ski Country USA (CSCUSA) ski resorts with fresh powder, delighting skiers and snowboarders alike as snow totals pile up.

A potent combination of moisture and arctic air left significant amounts of new snow throughout the high country over the last couple of days. Central and southwestern resorts are experiencing the brunt of this storm and are expected to continue accumulating snow through Thursday. Snowfall has been extremely heavy at times in the last 48 hours; the powder piled up at a rate of two inches per hour in Telluride, which recorded 16 inches of snow this morning as the snow continued to fall at a remarkable pace.

Since the first flakes began to fall on Tuesday, Wolf Creek has received 19 inches of new snow so far, Monarch and Purgatory at Durango Mountain Resort measured 18 inches with snow still falling, Ski Cooper reported 15 inches this morning as the powder collected, and Crested Butte reported a foot of new snow.

Elsewhere in Colorado Ski Country, 15.5 inches of new powder fell at Loveland, Arapahoe Basin reported 14 inches of new snow, Aspen/Snowmass received more than a foot of new snow, with more expected through tomorrow, Sunlight recorded 12 inches of new snow, Steamboat received 9.5 inches with more on the way, Winter Park and Eldora each received 9 inches, Howelsen recorded 8.5 inches, Powderhorn received 8 inches, and Copper reported 7 inches.

Recent weather patterns have accelerated the scheduled openings of several CSCUSA member resorts, and today’s storm will make opening day conditions even better. Purgatory at Durango Mountain Resort will open for the season on Friday, December 6, Powderhorn will open Saturday, December 7, Ski Granby Ranch will open for the season on Wednesday, December 11, and Ski Cooper will open this weekend and will open for the season on Saturday, December 14.

Total recorded snowfall has already exceeded 100 inches for the season at Loveland; Aspen/Snowmass and Steamboat are zeroing in on this benchmark and may surpass it before this storm subsides, and many other CSCUSA resorts are close behind. While there’s nothing like an epic powder day in Colorado Ski Country, skiers and snowboarders should continue to keep safety in mind to get the most out of this fresh round of snow. Wearing the right equipment for enjoying deep snow, and taking extra precaution while skiing and snowboarding in flat light and reduced visibility is highly recommended. Know your responsibilities on the mountain; it’s the key to having a great day on the slopes.

Crested Butte, Colorado Opens for Season with Blast of Snow

There are many reasons why one should be in Crested Butte, Colorado, right now. The first being that the resort is posting 12” of new snow in the last 24 hours and it’s still coming down. Second, the Silver Queen Express lift opens on Friday and the East River Express Lift on Saturday, meaning more incredible terrain to ski and fresh powder both mornings. Lastly, Crested Butte Mountain Resort (CBMR) is adding a little bonus to their passholders on Saturday, by opening the Silver Queen lift 15 minutes early to give them first tracks on the new terrain in the East River area. Calling it the Peak Pass Poach, CBMR is opening the lift at 8:45 a.m. on Saturday morning for Peak Pass, Peak Pass+, and Choice Pass holders to get first tracks. Untracked. Ungroomed. And it’s going to be unreal.

For terrain openings, the Silver Queen lift will open for the season this Friday, December 6, 2013 at 9 a.m. This will open almost 100 more acres by Friday. Saturday, with the East River lift opening, another 65 acres will open, making this early the season, one of the best in recent memory.

Arapahoe Basin

From December 1-20, 2013, kids ages 14 and under can ski or ride for free at Arapahoe Basin. No purchase required, no strings attached – parents only need to bring their kids to the ticket window to receive their free lift tickets. Arapahoe Basin wants kids to experience the snow sports Coloradans love so much, and for families to explore the mountain without breaking the bank. Aspen/Snowmass’s Perfect Holiday package allows kids to ski free with the purchase of an adult lift ticket, rent free with purchase of an adult equipment rental and stay free at the resorts. Loveland 4-Paks are available through November 24 with no restrictions and no blackout dates. These tickets are valid anytime during the 2013-2014 season. The 4-Paks are four actual tickets that guests can take straight to the lift. Skiers and riders only need to grab a wicket and they’re ready to ski. Loveland’s 4-Pak tickets are fully transferable and can be used by anyone on any day of the season. Skiers and riders can use the four tickets on four different days or share them with friends and family all on the same day. Powderhorn

Powderhorn Mountain Resort is offering its Learn to Ski or Ride Season Pass Series. Designed for first timers ages 8 and up, kids must be new to either the sport of skiing or snowboarding and ready to commit to three lessons. At the end of these lessons, they will have a great foundation and be able to take their new skills all over the mountain. Telluride Blues & Brews Offers Live Internet Video Stream of Festival, Sept. 12-15

Telluride Blues & Brews Festival celebrates 20 years.

Telluride Blues & Brews is again offering a live internet video stream of the entire festival,Sept. 12-15; (for details and schedule visit tellurideblues.com).

The summer music season of Colorado’s Western Slope region is capped off by four days of live tunes and craft libations at this year’s Telluride Blues & Brews Festival. Celebrating 20 years means bringing a standout lineup of national touring acts and a record 56 regional and national microbreweries for the festival and its patrons.

Primarily taking place in the 36 acre venue outfitted for choice live music experiences, Town Park sits adjacent to the downtown Telluride section at the end of the scenic box canyon bordered by high elevation peaks. New amenities this year include an enhanced food selection from 13 vendors, exclusive campground music sessions, an onsite camping gear vendor provided by Project Shelter, and a Main Street parade featuring the Rebirth Brass Band.

This year the iconic Fred Shellman Stage will take on the strong top-to-bottom lineup with headliners The Black Crowes, Jim James and Melissa Etheridge leading the charge. Last year The Black Crowes frontman played a memorable set at Telluride Blues & Brews with side project the Chris Robinson Brotherhood that serves as a testament to what his core band will offer this year, while My Morning Jacket vocalist Jim James will make his first solo appearance in Telluride after a huge summer of sets at the country’s biggest festivals. Melissa Etheridge’s extended 135 minute slot to close the festival on Sunday promises to be another notch in the event’s history of music legends playing at their highest level.

Telluride Blues & Brews never strays too far from its blues roots, and this year Booker T. Jones will be representing the electric blues category with his Hammond B3 mastery at the free kick off party on Thursday night. Booker’s modern counterpart and recent collaborator on Sound The Alarm Gary Clark Jr. will also flex his prodigious and progressive blues guitar chops the following evening on the Main Stage. Also on board for Thursday’s 20th Annual Celebration Show is trance blues stringsmith and Blues & Brews veteran Otis Taylor.

The modern rock landscape finds multi-instrumental soul-stress ZZ Ward, Austin’s retro-rockers Bright Light Social Hour, one-man-band Low Volts, American rock guitarist/pianist John Hiatt, and Telluride favorite Anders Osborne layering the lineup.

Telluride Blues & Brews goes heavy into the cast of funk players this year with England’s The New Mastersounds, the world class Preservation Hall Jazz Band from New Orleans, and the resurrected 70s psychedelic funk of The Relatives. The thriving neo-soul sound will be also be properly represented by Washington’s “hippie with soul” Allen Stone and UK acoustic soul singer/songwriter James Bay.

Between the 170 individual beers offered at the Grand Tasting on Saturday, the five hand selected House of Brews local representatives Aspen Brewing Company, Durango Brewing Company, Ska Brewing Company, Smuggler’s Brewing Company, and Telluride Brewing Company, and the official beer sponsor Sierra Nevada Brewing Company, Telluride Blues & Brews stays true to its legacy as a premier beer showcase in a booming microbrewery era.

When the lights go down, the party continues at the four late night Juke Joint venues. Booker T. Jones and The Preservation Hall Jazz Band with Jim James and Karl Denson claim the Telluride Conference Center. A revamped Fly Me To The Moon Saloon sees The Rebirth Brass Band and The New Mastersounds. The intimate Elks Lodge houses Bright Light Social Hour and Selwyn Birchwood Band. The historic Sheridan Opera House hosts an Allen Stone and ZZ Ward co-bill, Anders Osborne, and then Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe for the Fais do-do closing celebration.

The coveted Saturday single day tickets for the 20th installment of Telluride Blues & Brews have officially sold out, but limited 3-day passes and single day tickets for Friday and Sunday are still available.
