Just in time for the summer family vacation travel season, Disney Publishing Worldwide (DPW) and Walt Disney Records announced today the launch of “ Disney Karaoke: Frozen ,” an app based on the highest grossing animated film of all time, Frozen. “ Disney Karaoke: Frozen ” will be available in the Music and Entertainment categories of the App Store℠ with movie clips and nine original songs from the film that are featured in the triple Platinum-selling soundtrack from Walt Disney Records.

The “Disney Karaoke: Frozen” app enables kids (of all ages) to listen, sing along, and record their own voice through an assortment of nine songs from the film, including “Do You Want to Build a Snowman?,” “For the First Time in Forever,” “Love is An Open Door,” the Academy Award-winning hit, “Let It Go,” and more. To further enrich the consumer experience, the app allows fans to follow the lyrics with a snowflake and save recordings to a gallery. It can also be used with AirPlay®, offering singers the opportunity to play the music on television screens in their living room or hotel room, as it may be.

What a better way to keep kids entertained on car trips or at the airport or on the airplane or settling into a new hotel?

Disney Karaoke: Frozen ” is the next installment in a growing collection of digital apps by DPW that invites fans of all ages to re-live the stunning big-screen comedy adventure featuring fearless optimist, Anna, and her sister, Elsa. “ Frozen Storybook Deluxe ” was the first to launch in the collection and has since hit the Top 10 iPad Kids Category for downloads in 114 different countries and a Top 10 iPad Entertainment Category for downloads in 118 different countries. Later this year, additional Frozen apps will be unveiled to extend engagement of the franchise through unique and immersive digital storytelling.

“As we continue to extend Disney franchises across digital platforms, there is nothing more exciting than exploring the ways in which we can reach today’s consumers in deeper, more engaging ways with our incredible stories and characters,” said Lyle Underkoffler, vice president, Digital Media. “The ‘Disney Karaoke: Frozen’ app celebrates the beautiful music that everyone knows and loves, but it also allows fans to experience the movie anytime and anywhere in a highly active and uniquely Disney way.”

“Disney Music Group has had a long history of success with karaoke products, and it’s incredibly exciting to see this part of our business continue to innovate and grow,” added Trevor Kelley, vice president, Global Digital Marketing. “Frozen really is the perfect title to launch this product with given the strong personal connection that fans have had with the music from the film. It’s been incredible to get it into consumers’ hands.”

A leader in the karaoke audio category, Walt Disney Records also has 30+ titles in the Disney Karaoke Series with over 1.5mm in sales since the line’s inception in 2005. Frozen is the only Disney Karaoke title to debut in the Top 20 on the Billboard Top 200 chart at #17.

The Frozen original motion picture soundtrack spent thirteen non-consecutive weeks at No. 1 on The Billboard 200 album chart and remains the top-selling album of 2014. The Frozen soundtrack surpassed The Lion King’s 10-week reign at No. 1 in 1994 and has spent the most weeks at No. 1 for an animated film soundtrack in the 58-year history of the chart.

Disney Consumer Products is also celebrating the music from Frozen with new products that will be available at mass retailers and Disney Store this fall featuring the beloved songs from the film. From dolls, to role-play dresses, to jewelry sets and more, Frozen fans will be able to recreate the musical moments of their favorite characters.

WeNeedaVacation Expert Reports Cape Cod, Nantucket & Martha’s Vineyard Rental Price Hike, Offers Tips

May 23, 2014

Vacationers booking their vacation homes on the Cape and Islands may or may not have noticed a small price increase for the weekly costs from last summer to this one. On average, listing prices have gone up 3-4%, according to Jeff Talmadge of WeNeedaVacation.com. Talmadge and his site specialize in advertising vacation rentals on Cape Cod, Nantucket, and Martha’s Vineyard.

“There’s no science dictating how homeowners price their rentals,” Talmadge says, “and it’s important for vacationers to do plenty of research before putting down a deposit.”

Although renters begin booking their Cape and Islands vacation rentals as early as Christmastime or before, Talmadge says there are still plenty of properties available and deals to be had. “Even this late in the bookings season, I predict we’ll be getting about 150 new homes on WeNeedaVacation.com from listers who have just bought or renovated a home or whose current advertisements aren’t getting the job done,” Talmadge says. “They are able to list with us just 2 or 3 months to fill any remaining vacancies.” To get a great deal, he says, it’s important to use vacation search engines like WeNeedaVacation to sort by price and even such amenities as “Walk to beach” or “Waterviews” – and check back frequently. He discusses the matter in further detail in his appearance on FOX 25 Boston.

Here are more tips from Talmadge:

  • A week’s rental on Cape Cod, on average, costs $2,737, Martha’s Vineyard is at $3,636, and a rental on Nantucket, the most expensive, will run about $4,800.
  • If you want to get a good deal, the closer you get to summer when booking a rental, the fewer amenities you should insist on.
  • Cost-conscious vacationers should be sure to check for any Last-minute Availability Alerts or Owner Specials.
  • Though renters may not want to hear it, the price increase is a good thing for the local economy – it means it’s finally recovering from the recession.
  • Before putting down a deposit, it’s important to speak with the homeowner by phone if at all possible. And always use a lease for protection.

10 Ways to Celebrate Memorial Day in Your National Parks

May 23, 2014

Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado © 2014 Karen Rubin/news-photos-features.com

Join @GoParks this #MemorialDay in honoring the legacy of
fallen American veterans in #NationalParks

The National Park Foundation, the official charity of America’s national parks, invites Americans to join in remembering our brave veterans in national parks across the country. On Memorial Day weekend, many sites throughout the National Park System will hold events in memoriam of the greatest sacrifice made by those protecting our nation, while other sites stand as permanent tributes to fallen soldiers year-round.

“Memorial Day is about taking a collective moment to pause and pay tribute to the valor of our fallen American veterans,” said Neil Mulholland, President and CEO of the National Park Foundation. “National parks guard and honor the legacy of our brave military men and women in places such as battlefields, historical parks, and national monuments.”

From the American Revolutionary War to the events of September 11, 2001, the National Park Service and National Park Foundation work to protect the memory of those lost in service to their country. This Memorial Day, everyone can observe this day of reflection in a national park, paying respect to the ultimate devotion and sacrifice made by fellow Americans.

Celebrate and honor the memory of U.S. military members by:

  1. Learning what it was like to be a soldier in the American Revolutionary War at Independence National Historical Park (Pennsylvania) with activities and presentations throughout the day.
  2. Remembering the lives lost in the first battle of the U.S.-Mexican War at Palo Alto Battlefield National Historical Park (Texas), one of our American Latino Heritage Fund sites.
  3. Paying tribute to America’s fallen troops — from the War of 1812 to today — at Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve’s Chalmette National Cemetery (Louisiana).
  4. Reflecting on the sacrifices of this nation’s military personnel at Shiloh National Military Park (Tennessee) by listening to living historians as they interpret wars from colonial times to today.
  5. Visiting the numerous sites at National Mall & Memorial Parks (Washington, D.C.) and taking time to remember the contributions and service of American veterans both at home and abroad.
  6. Recognizing the valiant dedication of the first African American military pilots in World War II at Tuskegee Airmen National Historic Site (Alabama), one of our African American Experience Fund sites.
  7. Joining Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine (Maryland) as they pay tribute to the graves of fallen War of 1812, Civil War, World War I and II, and Korean War veterans.
  8. Honoring of the lives of ordinary passengers and crew members, who joined together for an extraordinary act of selflessness at Flight 93 National Memorial (Pennsylvania).
  9. Exploring the Lincoln Memorial (online) through an interactive website that showcases the memorial and park ranger reflections on its history.
  10. Watching PBS’s live National Memorial Day Concert on Sunday, May 25, from 8:00 to 9:30 p.m. ET, and enjoying the musical tributes by groups such as the U.S. Army Chorus, U.S. Navy Band Sea Chanters, and the U.S. Air Force Singing Sergeants.

To find even more events in national parks near you, visit the National Park Service’s event calendar.

The National Park Foundation is the official charity of America’s national parks and nonprofit partner to the National Park Service.  Chartered by Congress in 1967, the National Park Foundation raises private funds to help PROTECT more than 84 million acres of national parks through critical conservation and preservation efforts, CONNECT all Americans with their incomparable natural landscapes, vibrant culture and rich history, and INSPIRE the next generation of park stewards.  Find out more and become a part of the national park community at www.nationalparks.org

CruiseOne®, one of the nation’s leading home-based and military-friendly travel franchise companies, , is celebrating Military Appreciation Month this May with the launch of its third annual Operation Vetrepreneur: Become Your Own General contest, which begins on Monday, May 19, 2014 and continues until Friday, Aug. 8, 2014. Five deserving U.S. veterans will each receive a CruiseOne home-based travel franchise, a total value of $63,500.

“We not only thank our veterans for performing the highest call of duty by serving our country, but we also invite them to put their military skills to use in the civilian workforce by owning a travel franchise and making vacation dreams come true,” said Debbie Fiorino, senior vice president of CruiseOne, part of World Travel Holdings.

The CruiseOne franchise contest is open to former members of any of the five branches of the U.S. military (Army, Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard) who are retired, off active duty and/or honorably discharged prior to the contest start date.

To participate, candidates must complete an online entry form by Friday, Aug. 8. The form and all contest details can be found at www.OperationVetrepreneur.com or on CruiseOne’s Facebook page, www.Facebook.com/CruiseOneFranchise.

There will be three rounds of judging as part of this contest. First, candidates will participate in a phone interview with a CruiseOne franchise development specialist. Semi-finalists will be required to submit a franchise application, business plan and resume, all of which will be scored by the CruiseOne executive team. Final candidates will be invited to participate in follow-up phone interviews before winners are selected.

Five grand prize winners will be announced in August 2014. Valued at $12,700, each grand prize includes a free CruiseOne franchise with a waived $9,800 initial start-up fee and monthly service fees. The new recruits will report for active duty in October, when they participate in weeklong franchise training at CruiseOne’s state-of-the-art world headquarters in Fort Lauderdale. Winners will be reimbursed up to $500 for their travel and provided with complimentary accommodations during the training program. Once their training is completed, winners will be armed with all the tools and knowledge that they need to start up their own CruiseOne franchise.

“Studies show that veterans are among the most successful business owners in the franchising industry and that approximately 250,000 transition out of the military each year,” said Tim Courtney, vice president of franchise development and ambassador of veteran affairs for CruiseOne. “We recognize this fact and proudly recruit military veterans to join our network when they return home. In fact, veterans appreciate our extensive training program and the flexible work-life balance owning a home-based business provides, enabling them to simultaneously be successful and maximize their family time. Operation Vetrepreneur is just one way CruiseOne supports military veterans.”

A member of VetFran, CruiseOne offers many military veteran incentive programs including a 20 percent discount off the franchise fee and additional discounts for hiring former members of the U.S. military or active-duty military spouses as associates. The company aims to have 25 percent of its travel franchise system consist of veterans and their spouses by December 2014.

CruiseOne’s Vetrepreneur program will aid military veterans in finding work that will separate them from their past lives while still using the disciplinary skills they have acquired. This opportunity will enable military veterans to rise to success in the travel franchise industry while still granting them time to also relax and vacation anywhere in the world.

Consistently recognized by leading industry publications as a military-friendly franchise, CruiseOne’s accolades include a number one ranking by Forbes in its “Top 10 Military Friendly Franchise,” inclusion on USA Today’s “50 Top Franchises for Military Veterans” and recognition as a “Top Veteran-Friendly Franchise” by Entrepreneur and U.S. Veterans magazines. For the past four years, CruiseOne was named to G.I. Jobs magazine’s Military Friendly Franchises® lists, which represents the top 10 percent of the nation’s franchises that are doing the most to support military veterans.
