Andy Statman Trio on Midwest Tour in December

The Andy Statman Trio, featuring Andy Statman on mandolin and clarinet, Jim Whitney on bass, and Larry Eagle on drums, is on a Midwest Tour that will bring the acclaimed group to Minneapolis on Dec. 2, Iowa City on Dec. 3, Milwaukee on Dec. 4 and Chicago on Dec. 5.

The performances are part of a national tour honoring Andy Statman’s receipt of the 2012 National Heritage Fellowship, the nation’s highest honor in the traditional arts.

Andy, who has played with everyone from Izhak Perlman to Jerry Garcia, is one of the world’s premier performers in both American and Eastern European roots music. The Heritage Fellowship inducts Andy into an elite group of honorees, including Bill Monroe, BB King, Ralph Stanley, John Lee Hooker, Doc Watson and Klezmer pioneer Dave Tarras, one of Andy’s early mentors.

The trio will be performing excerpts from their new two-volume record, Old Brooklyn, featuring fiddler Byron Berline, guitarist Jon Sholle, and guest artists Ricky Skaggs, Béla Fleck, Paul Shaffer, Bruce Molsky, Art Baron, Marty Rifkin, Bob Jones, Lew Soloff, Kristen Muller and John Goodman.

The Andy Statman Trio is known for its exciting improvisational style and deeply lyrical performances. Seeing and hearing this ensemble is truly an unforgettable experience.
