CroisiEurope Celebrates 150 Years of Impressionism With New Seine River Cruise

To celebrate the 150th anniversary of Impressionism, Europe’s largest river cruise operator, CroisiEurope, has launched a new itinerary to discover what inspired and influenced artists such as Monet, Renoir, Sisley and Bazille who all lived on the banks of the legendary Seine River.

On this five-day cruise from Paris to Normandy, guests will explore the locations that inspired the Impressionist movement such as Rouen and Honfleur, the Côte d’Albâtre and the charming village of Giverny which was home to Monet for 40 years.

Starting in Paris, the cruise calls in Poissy, Mantes-La-Jolie, Honfleur and Rouen before finishing back in Paris.

Highlights include:

• Giverny including a tour of the Monet’s studio and gardens.

• A walking tour of Honfleur which is considered one of the cradles of Impressionism and where Boudin, Monet, Bazille and Jongkind all stayed at the famous Saint-Simeon farm, each attempting to replicate the changing light of the estuary.

• Étretat and the Côte d’Albâtre, with its magnificent white cliffs lined with pebble beaches. Here, Monet painted La Porte d’Aval in rough weather and a beautiful snow-covered landscape; Courbet executed his series of waves; Caillebotte brought Pere Magloire to life as he strolled the road in Étretat; and Boudin produced works at the end of his life focusing only on light.

• A guided walking tour of Rouen along the streets that influenced Monet, Pissarro and Gauguin including a visit the city’s art museum to experience its rich Impressionist collection—the largest outside of Paris.

• A magical cruise through Paris at night.

• An onboard presentation: ‘The Seine River During the Times of the Impressionists’.
